I always go back to this place whenever I’m working in London.
The Gasholders development at King’s Cross will always have a special place in my heart. In October of 2015, I started with a new client – Socrates Communications, Fulham; a property branding agency that was (and still is) working on some massive developments across the world.
Each of the brochures were high-end works of art (befitting a project where a single studio flat was expected to cost a million pounds), with multiple paper stocks – including tracing paper – and laser cut graphics as well as over 180 pages of floorplans; and cost thousands of pounds to produce (because of foil blocking, etc.). I accepted the challenge of bringing them into the world with my production knowledge gained from working in publishing and in the Pre-Press department at The Argus newspaper in Brighton. Towards the end of that year, I took control of the project as the Design Director was away on annual leave and I was considered a safe pair of hands.
After leaving Socrates in 2016 (due to an annual reports season booking), I went to work at another property agency in London. They noticed Gasholders was in my portfolio and were very pleased to show me the copy of the Host Brochure they’d got hold of (Argent – the end client – worked with a few design agencies in London) and when they realised I’d worked on what was seen as the Holy Grail of property brochures, they were more than happy to have me onboard.
This project led to the formalisation of Stormbringer Design as a Limited Company as it gave me the confidence to go out into the world as a production artwork magician.
I’ve since gone on to create property floorplans for the likes of Booking.com’s headquarters in Amsterdam and other great developments.
